I remember Gunam Acca from the late sixties. At that time most of us Tamils who lived in London were students and there were only a very few families in the UK . She was like a mother or elder sister figure to many of us. She worked relentlessly to keep our Tamil culture going, acting as a guardian with the help of her husband, Ranganathan Anna. She would be there to help anyone during any occasions, weddings, temple functions, cultural functions, funerals and family ceremonies. Her contribution to the development of temples in London were immense, especially the development of Archway Murugan Temple. In those early days there were no proper temples or Ayairs so we were all so grateful for the way she and her husband always came forward to help. She has been the pillar of our society in this country. We are all going to miss her a great deal. She was ever ready to help anyone who needed it. She was also the backbone of Urumpirai Hindu College Old students Association, helping with fund raising and ever ready to supply food for any Urumpirai events. It is regrettable that she was the last patron of the UHCOSA UK to depart from us. We are left with a gaping hole to fill her presence to steer the Association forward. A unique person, I don't think we will ever find anyone like her again. Personally I dearly miss her, I treated her like my own sister and we had mutual respect to each other. May she always be remembered for what she has done and may she rest in peace by joining her lifelong partner Ranganathan Anna. May acca's family members find peace and comfort recollecting the happier times and fond memories of her. Sivalingam & Lalith
