I met you for the first time at Ammamma’s house in Sri Lanka when you had just arrived from London. At first, I was very shy of you, but my shyness towards you slowly wore off as I spent more and more time with you and my cousins. We would play ஒளிச்சு பிடிச்சு around Ammamma’s house, go to the Bairavaa Temple, and I even celebrated my 10th birthday with you. This trip to Sri Lanka was the last time I saw you in person, but this trip gave me my most vivid childhood memories I had with you. My favourite memory of us was when we played with water guns at Ammamma’s house. I remember we and our cousins were all in the front yard of Ammamma’s house filling up our water guns with water from the hose. We all took turns spraying each other with water, and we were all soaked and our hair and clothes were all wet. After this Sri Lanka trip, I remember that you and I would talk over the phone every Friday about school and our hobbies. I would love watching videos of your Carnatic vocal singing and of your piano playing skills that you’d send. The last memory I had with you was on my birthday last year. On a video call, you wished me a happy birthday and I remember asking you what game you were playing with Sakash. But, looking back on this moment, I wish I had asked you more questions about how school was going, what you were learning in your piano lessons, and you in general. However, I have learned to appreciate the time that I did spend with you. Although I didn’t talk to you as much as I would have liked to, I’m glad that I was able to at least say a few words to you on my birthday. Although I wasn’t able to see you in person once more, I’m glad that we created lasting memories the last time we saw each other. Our times together, whether they were happy or sad, will always remind me of the happiness that you made me feel when we were younger. So, I am certain that the friendship we would have had today would have given us more exciting and unforgettable moments.
