For us, Appappa was a beacon of love. I was drawn by Appappa's and Ammamma's warmth and calm presence when I first met them when Zap and Zed were very young and in the same nursery as our little ones, those many moons ago. As a mum with toddlers, I was always rushed and flustered, and anytime you saw them both (they were always together), there was a certain calmness and reassurance you felt around them. They never seemed rushed or flustered, but were always on time, reliable, calm and measured when you saw and spoke with them. Appappa had the time for everyone, and even though he was like a father, he made time out to talk to you like he was a friend. He gave you the attention that made you feel very important. I remember on his 70th birthday joint garden get together at Yalini's, he sat with me and we had the most amazing conversations and laughed together. We talked about everything and anything. His ability to strike friendships did cut right across all age groups. It was heartwarming to watch how he loved all around him including his children and grandchildren who all adore him. From what we observed, Stephen and Tamsin were like his flesh and blood - a son and daughter - and not his in-laws. Appappa, you were the Father we all loved to have had (we secretly admired you from a distance). Your love and dedication towards loving others was exemplary. You had a big heart with endless rooms that accommodated everybody and you have touched us all! Your love will shine ever brightly and the seeds of love you have sown will flourish evermore! We all love you Appappa. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. To a great man! ... From Keji, Sara, Mayokun, Debare and Derayo.
