Late Thiyakesapillai Siva Ruban
I may have met Ruban Uncle many times in Urumpirai, when I was a little kid but I have a very strong memory when Uncle, Aunty, Yalini & Brendon visited Sri Lanka in 1978. I was preparing for my O/L exam and we were living in Suthumalai. I also remember very well they also attended my sister Ramani's age attaining ceremony, same year. At that time as a young student, I was trying to figure out my future, with all the uncertainties in Sri Lanka. There were a few people who inspired me to think beyond Sri Lanka for higher studies and a better future. Ruban Uncle was definitely one of them. Ruban Uncle’s & Aunty’s path (leaving our little village, Urumpirai, all the way to UK and settling down there for a better future gave me a lot of inspiration and hope. I was so proud of their achievements. After that I have met them many times at their residence, at different weddings and parties. Last year in UK and again in Canada at different weddings. Another thing that touched my heart was Uncle’s personality, very humble, calm, down to earth, treating everyone with respect regardless their age and inspiring in many ways. The whole family is a very good host and entertained us well, when ever, we visited them. Uncle could have lived many more years and continued to inspire all of us but for whatever the reason he was in a hurry to leave this world. God probably needed his service elsewhere. So, Uncle, let us say good bye for the last time and may your soul rest in peace! Our deepest condolences to Sothi Aunty, Yalini & Brendon and their family. My dad & mom, (Balasingam Anns & Gnanam Acca) also send their heartfelt condolences. Best regards Nimalan, Annike, Melanie & Stephanie
