Like the professional dancers, Uncle may have come and gone, but his legacy of unquestioning benevolence towards all those who sought his help will live on for generations. There will be many raconteurs in many Tamil homes across the world, who will be recalling stories of how they were helped, uplifted or put on the path to success by Uncle. I first met Uncle Subramaniam in 1973; it was a damascene moment for me. He was sui generis. He never indulged in obfuscation, prevarication or procrastination. He was an action man with a 'can do' attitude. He always seemed to have a way to get things done. "Pax vobiscum," Uncle. My wife and I send you our final farewell. You are an irreplaceable soul. You have done so much good for so many. We hold onto the hope that, like a Lazarus Taxon, someone with your rare spirit and kindness will one day reappear on this land. Like the festival dancers, you may have exited, but your legacy will remain firmly rooted in our hearts.
