Robert and I were graduate students in Sociology at the University of Minnesota from 1962 to 1965. We shared an office during those years and developed a friendship that lasted six decades. He was a brilliant scholar who was kind, generous and fun to be with. He eventually became chairman of the Sociology Department at Hunter College in NYC and I became a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island. We both were among the co-founders of the Society for the study of Symbolic Interaction (SSSI) May you rest in peace dear friend and may the memory of you be a blessing . See you on the other side, pal.
