(.Pt2) She gave special attention to supplement theoretical topics with appropriately designed experimental learning in the laboratory. While teaching a class there were occasions where she would probe us with questions to test our understanding. If she sensed that we didn’t quite get it, she will tirelessly repeat the whole lesson until we get the concepts right. She was always approachable, kind, and friendly. Along with her husband, she worked untiringly to build the Chemistry department at University of Jaffna and to establish the highest possible academic standards. The Chemistry Department of the University of Jaffna is widely respected for its quality of teaching and assessment because of the foundations laid by Professors S and R Mageswaran. She carried out pioneering research in the fields that are vital to the North. Her research involved topics such as the analysis of ground water quality in the North, analysis of palmyrah products and analysis of sea food that are specific to the North, among others. She also supervised many students in their postgraduate research. When she retired in the year 2010, a Gold Medal for the best performance in Inorganic Chemistry was established with the initiative of one of us and with the contribution of her past students and well-wishers. The gold medal will be awarded annually and will remain as a lasting tribute to her legacy. Her students are spread across the world contributing to humanity in the science and medical fields. Interacting with her past students had been a fulfilling experience for her. Though we have lost her so suddenly, we strive to celebrate her beautiful life in service, remembering the impact she made in the lives of countless students including us. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Professor Rajeswary Mageswaran and carry forward her memory with deep gratitude. May her soul rest with God in eternity!*R.Thangarasa; K.Nalayini; J.Shanthini; N.Sivapalan; E.Jeyarajah[UoJ ChemSp.75-80]
