It’s hard to live an honourable life, because even in honour, people can feel hurt, needs can go unmet, and families can struggle. But he lived with honour, in his home and beyond it. I remember a story he shared with me. He said that when you offer something to someone, you should truly mean it, that you should never offer for the sake of appearance, but with sincerity in both your words and your actions. He explained it simply: there’s a difference between saying, “Would you like something to drink?” and “I’m going to get you something, what would you like?” It seems small, but it isn’t. It’s intention. It’s love, made visible in the smallest acts. That stayed with me. I no longer just ask when someone comes over; I serve. And every time I do, I think of him. They say you can know a lot about a person by how they make others feel. He made people feel seen and valued, somehow making himself smaller so others could feel bigger. In a world where we often rush past one another, where we forget to pause, to offer, to care- he didn’t. Even through illness, he chose humility. He chose faith. He chose to give. And that is how he will be remembered: not just for what he said, but for how he lived; with quiet strength, with intention, and with a generosity that will continue to live on in all of us.
