I remember the day well when my sister and Periya Athan got married in Urumpirai, Sri Lanka. Periya Athan, being the eldest brother-in-law had a great influence and impact on all my family members. His presence was always felt by all whenever he visited our house due to his jovial nature and character. My first visit out of Jaffna, during my school days, was to Brookside Tea Estate in Nuwera Eiliya where Periya Athan was the Chief Officer and I remember him showing me around the tea factory and the production facilities. I also have a vague memory of visiting him at a hospital in Sri Lanka where he was recovering from an operation to have his appendix removed. Having to live away from Sri Lanka had it tolls on all of us. I met him next when he visited me in Wales in early 1980’s and I took him to the Carmarthen Temple. He had a rear opportunity of being taken inside the temple by the priest/ guru for a special blessing on that day. It had been sometime since I saw him last, the last one being when he came to London from Canada to attend an auntie’s funeral. I regret not being able to visit him in Canada before he died. May God bless his soul and comfort my sister and family to overcome the sad loss of my beloved brother-in-law. Siva, Jamuna & family (Wales)
