I want to remember and pay tribute to a remarkable woman — my beloved mother-in-law. She was one of the gentlest and softest-spoken people I have ever known. She would never hurt a fly. Her kindness and compassion extended to everyone, and she treated everyone equally. She was talented, kind and genuinely cared for others, her native Punguduthevu and her extended family. She was always ready to give — her love, her time, and whatever she had to those in need. She gave selflessly, never expecting anything in return. Few people have been as gentle, generous and compassionate. She was also a tremendous strength and support to my father-in-law. He devoted much of his life to community service, and she stood beside him throughout their life, supporting his commitments. She made sacrifices in her career to support her husband and family. I truly believe she had the potential to reach great heights as a teacher. Yet, despite the opportunities she gave up for her family, she earned immense love and respect from her students. The many former students who came to pay their final respects showed her lasting impact. To me and our family, she was much more than a mother-in-law. Her presence brought warmth. I will always remember how happy she was when we visited. Above all, I will miss her beautiful, hearty smile — a smile I will carry in my heart forever. I am deeply grateful to my sister-in-law, who cared for her devotedly. My only regret is that we could not be there during her final moments. I wish things could have been different, but I take comfort in the many happy memories we shared. I thank God for the privilege of knowing her and for allowing her kindness, generosity and teaching to touch so many lives. She lived a life of love, sacrifice, compassion and service. Her gentle voice may now be silent, but her kindness, her smile and her memory will remain with us forever. We will miss you dearly, Mamy. You will always remain in our hearts.
