Mahalingam Paramalingam was the student council president at Jaffna Council in 1985. It is student elected president equivalent to a head prefect. He was also the cricket captain in 1984. A tall man from Arali, he was very good in mathematics and entered the Jaffna University. In cricket he was an allrounder. Opening bowler who bowled from a short run up but can get the ball to bounce at good pace. Param was a middle order batsman who likes to hit the ball hard. He was the goalkeeper for hockey and soccer. Won first prizes in javelin and high jump. Param comes in the mold of many JC student leaders who were not afraid to question authority. I do not think he played the nice boy image to get any positions. He is the son of Dr. Mahalingam a well known kind docror at the Vaddu government dispensary in the 1980s. Too young to leave this world. May his soul rest in peace.
