Kunchi Amma, my father, Visvanathan’s, one and only brother’s wife. Even today, I can play back the memories from when I was a child. I remember the first time Kunchi Iya introduced me to the love of his life, in Colombo, and said that this is your Kunchi Amma. He said to Kunchi Amma that I was his only brother’s eldest son. Kunchi Amma’s family had welcomed me with open arms and I was showered with warmth and given delicious food to eat. This is something I will never forget (c.1970). My father then decided to get them married in Vavuniya, at the Thirukoneswaram temple, with the support of his cousins, Thiyagarasa and Thevarasa. At a later stage, during such a difficult time for various reasons, my father gathered the whole family in Velanai after the birth of their first daughter in 1974. Kunchi Iya and Kunchi Amma were then comfortably settled in Velanai Sitpanai. I tried my very best to help her but, unfortunately, it was not successful. My dear friends tried their very best but they too were not able to help her. On Monday evening, 23rd August, our beloved Kunchi Amma left us from her own home in Colombo surrounded by her dear husband and brother. My family and I send our condolences to her family.
