It was indeed sad to hear of the demise of Rasamalar Aunty, the eldest of my father's younger sisters. She was so dignified and would never ask for help, always trying to do things independently. It was a shock that my aunt Thevi predeceased her, as Thevi was the youngest. Needless to say I expected to see Rasamalar Aunty the next time I went to Manipay. Since 2010 I had gone to Jaffna around six times and met with her and Thevi Aunty each time. She was stoic and if one asked her if she needed anything she would say she did not have any wants. To me it is as though I have lost a valuable link with my beloved father in Sri Lanka. We had such fun at Saduville Lodge when we were children and used to visit prior to 1970. Golden memories remain! May Rasamalar Aunty's soul rest in peace eternal, finally away from the cares of this world.
