I am so lucky that this was my ammamma. When I was very young, I remember being dropped off to stay in Stanhope avenue, every time we bought ammamma and the same body butter from the body shop. Even years later, I'd see them stacked proudly around her dressing table. She was a sophisticated person woman who took pride in herself, family and everything she ever received. When I was 12, I went to Sri Lanka and India for 2 months with ammamma - I missed my mum (Kalyani) so much that I was very fussy. Despite that, I have such clear memories of her seeing all of her relatives, giving all of her energy to others and their struggles - seeing the way people spoke to ammamma, feeling so safe, expressing their stories - I know she was a positive force to so many. I remember when the queen came to visit the Hindu temple in highgate, ammamma and I stood outside and it was so exciting! She was disruptive but also respected the traditions laid out before, and taught me to respect different cultures in a way that is united. We can exist with our differences, and respect and celebrate each other. I've seen the complete devotion that my mum, Marma and sundari I have had for ammamma. There was never gonna be another option - because she built and devoted her life to her family. I'm so proud this is my ammamma! A gorgeous, powerful, leader! I know she has touched and inspired so many! And I'm happy I can hold onto these beautiful memories - always a source of strength whenever life happens
