I’m Caroline, Raja’s oldest daughter who was raised in America by my French mother. She always spoke so kindly of my father’s family. Thankfully my first few years of life I was also raised by my loving aunt Pathma who makes me so curious and nostalgic of Sri Lanka. I have only been to Sri Lanka once, in 1991 when I was 8 years old. I had the most magical journey to my father’s homeland. I made a diary and still cherish it greatly. One of my fondest memories, along with the animals of this beautiful country was my grand aunt. Almost all my most fun memories of her was in the humid kitchen in Colombo. She seemed so tall to me and always wore a smile. It seemed like all she wanted to do was make me laugh. We didn’t speak the same language, thankfully we all speak love and laughter. She would flip her eyelids backwards, something to this day I have never met anyone who does that. As a kid, I would talk about her to my friends. No one had a family member that could do that. I wish I knew her better but if I didn’t forget her after 30 years, I will never forget her! She had a lot of energy and her energy will live on through her family through love. Caroline
