I first came to know the Late Mr Markandu when he assumed duties as the Assistant Government Agent, Pallai in the early 1970's. I was at then the Advisory Field Officer , Coconut Research Institute stationed at Pallai. The Late Mr Markandu was an non assuming person & showed great sympathy to the underprivileged and worked hard to better their life & always did what was correct. He also revived the then defunct Public Servants Club & I was closely associated with him in his endeavours. As the years passed my family & his family became closely associated in various forms. Even when he retired to UK & I to Australia he never failed to regularly telephone me & inquire about me. May his soul rest in peace.
