My grandmother's last words to me were to pray for her and not worry but rather focus on my studies. She always put those she cared for first and is genuinely one of my largest role models because of her constant belief in the power of education. Her value of education was one she instilled in my mother, who taught me to value it just as strongly as she did, and I am infinitely grateful. She was unwaveringly determined that I achieve success, so I would never have to depend on anyone but myself. She wanted me to be a strong independent woman and raised my mother to be one too. That strength and resilience my mom holds I feel directly came from my grandmother. To have raised children while the world crumbled around you, while the people surrounding you with power had put a target on your back, is a strength I have deeply admired since I learned my family's story. Every member of her family holds diligence, perseverance, courage, kindness, and patience. I think most of those traits are present because of the mother she was to her children. Because of her, I was raised to be kind, work hard above all, and lastly, to believe I have the power to create my own path in this world through the knowledge I gain. I miss you more than words, Ammammah; you were a force of nature. Rest peacefully.
