We are deeply saddened by the death of our maternal aunt, beloved Sinnamma (Mrs Rathinam Kandasamy). Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to her bereaving family and friends. Since her childhood, she was very courageous and determined girl. She decided her own future. She had a passion for agriculture. After graduating from Agriculture Training School, she moved to Vaddakachchi, Kilinochchi, where she started her own farm. A young girl in her twenties, leaving her family home and living alone in a distant place was a rare event in 1950s. She was one of the finest and nicest aunts we had. During our school holidays, our family used to visit her farm. We loved these trips. We ran around her farm, enjoyed the trees and plants, some of which we had never seen in Karaveddi. To name a few, jambu and guava trees. My mother, attracted by these trees, brought young ones and planted in our home garden. We enjoyed the fruits for many years. Whenever we visit her, she will receive us with open arms and happy face; treat us well and make our trip a memorable one. When we leave, she will fill our car boot with her farm produce. We have lost an inspiring and talented lady today. She respected and maintained family values at all times. She was well respected by her friends and relatives. Our words cannot bring back her loss to her grieving family anymore except some consolation. We join her family and friends in their prayers and pray to rest her soul in peace. We have the following options: “We can shed tears that she has gone away or we can smile that she has lived with us for about 90 years; We can feel that our hearts are empty because we can’t see her or our hearts are filled with full of love and the care and support she shared; We can be sad and depressed that we have lost a wonderful lady or we can remember her for what she had done to us and cherish and live with her memory.” The choice is ours.
