Tamil community in Greater Toronto Area (GTA), especially those in Oakville and Mississauga, will sorely miss the presence of this gentleman, Mr. Arasaratnam, affectionately known as Arasu. This part of Canada has been the home of his family for nearly five decades and has always been active within and outside the Tamil community. A proud son of his soil and was always concerned about the plight of the Ceylon Tamil community back in Sri Lanka. Arasu studied at Skandavarodaya College and, in then Madras. He was a chartered accountant by training, and had worked in the UK and Zambia prior to settling down in Canada to raise the family with his spouse Sridevi. They were both instrumental in starting the Tamil language classes for the families of a small Tamil community in the Peel and Halton Regions through the Peel Board of Education in the late 1970s in Clarkson, Mississauga. Arasu was very much a student of history with vast knowledge in many areas. He had served as the president of the Richmond Hill Hindu Temple and a founding member of the organization, along with late Mr. N. Sivalingam (Temple) and the late N. Vijayanathan, who served the displaced people in Sri Lanka over several years. Arasu was a compassionate individual and a strong family oriented person. Our heartfelt condolences to his dear wife, children and his families. May he rest in absolute peace.
No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. However, take comfort in knowing that he/she is now resting in the arms of our Lord. Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
