I first met Uncle Markandan in 2003 during Thanga’s father’s 30th-day memorial service in Araly. He graciously took the lead as our guide, sitting beside the driver and confidently answering questions from security personnel. His fluency in Sinhala and his warm friendship with my father left a lasting impression. One moment I will always cherish was during his son Mayuran’s registration in London, when Uncle honoured me in his own unique style by inviting me to open the first bottle of whisky to begin the celebration. His hospitality was unmatched, and his ability to entertain us with popular pop songs and his incredible whistling alongside his brother, Nagul Uncle was truly unforgettable. Uncle’s dedication and support for the Jaffna Hindu College Old Students’ Association in Canada stand as a testament to his commitment to community and friendship. You leave behind memories of an ever-young, vibrant soul. Om Shanti. Thanga and Family
