A Tribute to Kandiah Mami who lived a long, and full life, passed away peacefully on the 30th of Oct 2023 in London. Mami is mostly known as Kamala Acca amongst the relations and Mrs NSK amongst friends. She is leaving behind a legacy of over 50 years living in London, who spent most of her life helping many of our relations and friends over the duration of her life. Mama (Late NS Kandiah), Mami and their family helped many generations of students and young families who moved from Sri Lanka between the 80s and late 2010. I was one of their 80s batch who stayed and studied at their house, like me there are many around the world who have stayed and studied at one of their houses at Merton Road, Wandsworth or Connaught Road in Sutton. The people who knew Kandiah Family will agree that NSK’s house was always a place where you can always walk in unannounced, and you can be sure there will be always someone there to receive you. When someone comes into their house the first question will be “have you eaten” if you say yes then the response will be always “I will serve you little” if you still say no, then surely a coffee or tea in the process of making… The service you get is not a self service, everything is served on the plate with utmost hospitality. Mami always wants her children to live nearby so she can see them every day, their house is always a happy house with people around. Mami’s memories would always live on within us, her legacy of love and caring are the ones she is leaving behind within the people. We will be forever grateful and thankful for both Kandiah Mama & Mami.🙏
