கண்ணீர் அஞ்சலி

Sri Mahalingam 15 JUL 2025 United States

Ramilan and Sukanya: Please accept my sincere condolences. I know we are all going to miss his presence. But he will live in all our memories. May his soul rest in peace. I have fond memories of your father since I was a 5-year-old boy. He was the youngest uncle for me. He also went to Jaffna Central. So, there is a special bond already established. In the earlier days, whenever he came home to visit his mother, he always spent a week with us. I remember he was taking me around whenever he went on errands in grand bazaar. As I grew into 10-year-old boy, one day he took me to the Bata shoe shop at the Cooperative Store and bought me my first pair of pointed black shoe, a can of Kiwi polish and a shoe brush. I guess pointed shoes were in fashion then. Once we arrived home, he showed me how to apply polish, showed me how to brush to make it shiny. I still remember this experience vividly like yesterday. During my high school days, I used to go to your home in Tellipallai and spent my weekends whenever he was in town. I was grown up then and he shared with me all the stories about his childhood. I also felt very comfortable with him to discuss any subject or even to debate him. He had the ability to step down to young people’s age level and made them feel comfortable to have any discussion. During the years between 2011 and until my mother passed away, I used to travel to Colombo every year. While he was living in Colombo, I visited him every time and spent the whole afternoon talking about the good old days as well as the life outside Sri Lanka. I still remember one day he teased me for not remembering the entire Jaffna Central college song. Of course, all with good intentions. During my last trip in 2023, I am glad, I visited your father couple of times in Colombo. I am so glad he was my uncle/friend and he left us all with great memories.
