Veluppillai Sahathevan, known to most as "Saha", was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 2 June 1943 and passed away peacefully on 15 February 2025.

He was the sixth and youngest child of the late Veluppillai & Sinnacchippillai, affectionately known as “Thamby”, not just by his late siblings (Mahadevan, Meenakshi, Nellinathan, Kamalavathi, Kamachi), but also for many of the extended family, including his dear cousin Bhavani Rajasingham.

His young life and early career were spent in Sri Lanka – initially in Veemankamam, Tellipallai, where he was a star student at Union College, then as an engineering undergraduate at the University of Peradeniya and finally in Colombo, as an engineer at Radio Ceylon.

He moved to London in 1972. He married in 1976 and together with his loving wife, Malathi (Mala), he built his life and career in London and remained there until his passing.

Saha and Mala were later blessed with two children of whom they were very proud: a daughter – Priyadharshini (Dharshi) - and a son – Hariharan (Hari).

He was delighted when Hari married Sugi and, more recently, he adored spending his time with his three affectionate grand-daughters – Anoushka, Reya and Laila.

Saha was a doting uncle of Rani, Devi, Thanam, Viji, Gowri, Geetha, Punitha, Kamalan and Senthil, and an adopted uncle for many who spent time in London and passed through his home.

His gentle demeanour, sincerity and breadth of knowledge enabled him to forge genuine connections with people of all ages and walks of life.

Although the family was spread across the world, he enjoyed all the time he spent with them and their children – “London Thatha” was a beloved figure in the extended family and will be missed by many.

We request our relatives, friends and families to accept this notice through RIPBOOK.

Funeral arrangements to follow.

In memory of Saha and instead of flowers, the family would suggest donations to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Kidney Patients Association, which supports other patients at the unit where Saha received outstanding and supportive care in the last years of his life.
