With deep sorrow and humble respect, we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Thayalan Krishna Cumarasamy, a devoted physician, father, husband, and mentor who departed this life on May 2, 2025, at the age of 68 surrounded by his family.

Born to the late Dr. Krishna and Ranee Arunthathi Cumarasamy, Thayalan dedicated his professional life to the service of others. Through his decades-long medical career, he healed with compassion, led with conviction, and inspired with knowledge. He believed deeply that education and independence are cornerstones of optimal health, and he worked tirelessly to uphold that belief through every patient he treated. Day in and day out, he gave his patients the time they deserved, and truly practiced medicine at the highest levels of his profession.

Thayalan was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He completed his primary education at Wesley College followed by his secondary education at the Royal College in Colombo which he completed in 1975. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sri Lanka, graduating in 1979. Following this, he pursued further education in the United Kingdom as a Fellow of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland. He subsequently served as Senior House Officer at Colombo General Hospital and returned to the UK to work in the same capacity in London and South Manchester. He then moved to the United States, where he completed a residency and fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota in 1987 while simultaneously earning a Master’s Degree in Anatomy. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Manitoba, and ultimately went on to pursue an accelerated Medical Doctor degree at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, followed by a residency in Family Medicine at Virtua Health in New Jersey which he completed in 1996. He forged an uncharted path through his professional life which gave him a unique perspective on medicine that all his patients held in high regard, and he spent the rest of his life serving the South Jersey community from a private practice which he built.

Thayalan was the beloved husband of Rohini Cumarasamy and the devoted father of Easwaran Cumarasamy and Dr. Shivaram Cumarasamy. He was son-in-law to the late Thurairaja Thuraisingham and Mahalakshmi Thuraisingham. He was a proud father-in-law to Dr. Christine Cumarasamy and a loving grandfather to Lionel Winston Cumarasamy, who brought him immense joy. He was the elder brother to Mrs. Chandrika Jeyamohan and Dr. Nilani Ravichandran. As an uncle he was respected in the lives of Dr. Shiveindra Jeyamohan, Dr. Hareindra Jeyamohan, Krishani Ravichandran, Nishan Ravichandran, and Anjali Ravichandran. And he was a friend and additional sibling to his brothers-in-law Chellathurai Jeyamohan, Ravichandran Rajararatnam, Rohan Thuraisingham, Kumar Thuraisingham, and the late Ramesh Thuraisingham.

Dr. Cumarasamy’s impact reached far beyond his immediate circle. He was a teacher, mentor, role model, and friend to many people across the globe over his decades of life. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.

We request our relatives, friends and families to accept this notice through RIPBOOK.
