This week, as we said goodbye to Appama, it hit me how incredibly lucky I have been to have my lovely appama with me for 28 years. It is rare for a grandparent-grandchild relationship to be so loving and so long-lasting, but then, Appama was that cheerful kind of person every single day of her life. Until the last couple of years, my appama had more energy and interest in life than anyone I’ve ever known. May she rest in peace.
