Tribute To Ram Ram (17 April 1946 – 22 December 2025) rying to sum up Ram in just a few words is almost impossible — mainly because he left us with far too many stories. I met Ram in 1994 when I joined Lankian CC. Soon after, I saw him stranded in Northolt with his VW Passat broken down. I gave him my AA breakdown card and carried on to work. Even then, Ram had a gift for being memorable. Through Ram, I became part of his Wesley College circle, sharing many trips to Sri Lanka and Spain. One trip to Spain says it all. There were eight of us, a few drinks in, facing a lift clearly meant for four. Ram said, “It’ll be fine.” It wasn’t. The lift got stuck between floors. While some panicked and others prayed, Ram entertained us with jokes — and somehow managed to open the doors before the engineers arrived. Only Ram could turn being stuck in a lift into a social event. Ram was a true people’s man. He loved his friends and his sport. Though he captained Wesley College in rugby, cricket was his real passion. He devoted years to Lankian Cricket Club, proudly serving as a player, Chairman and President. Sadly, Ram won’t be around to celebrate his 80th birthday this April. It was my pleasure to have hosted his 70th at my home, surrounded by a few of his friends and extended family — a night filled with laughter, just as he would have wanted. On 3 November 2025, Ram organised a Lankian reunion in Rayners Lane. It was such a good night that many wanted it to become an annual event. Sadly, Ram won’t be with us next time — but he will certainly be the main topic of conversation. Ram, you were truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed. May you rest in peace. Hari
