It has been 31 days since Appama left us and while I know she is in a better place it has been very difficult here without her.

In her absence, it is the little things that stand out, like Appama meeting me at the door with a smile when I return home or watching over me while I study. I have been fortunate enough to spend 20 years with Appama by my side. Twenty years to experience her love, support and guidance while growingup. 

It goes without saying that she felt unconditional love for all of us. No matter what happened she was always there if anyone needed her. We could always count on her to listen, comfort, and help. She did everything for us and never expected anything in return. 

Growing up, Appama always took interest in my academics, extracurriculars, hobbies, and wellbeing. Appama was young at heart and in life. She made me forget that we were 60 years. She helped andsupported me in every way she possibly could. I know grandchildren share a unique bond with their grandparents. But Appama was a class a part. Not many grandmas would play video games with their grandson. Fewer still would leave the warmth of their homes to come to hockey games in below zero temperatures. But Appama did. She would travel across and outside the country for soccer tournaments just to support and cheer me on. She would make sure I did my math homework and then double check my work so I didn’t make any mistakes. 

What I’m trying to say is that with Appama around, I never had to worry about anything. Growing up with Appama meant the world to me. She made sure I always had food to my liking and provided me with everything I needed to be successful. Appama always lifted my spirits when I was down or showed me the way when I was not sure what to do. 

Appama lived to make the lives of the people around her better, and has done that by being the best grandma, mother, aunt, and friend anyone could ask for. 

I will always cherish the moments we had together and carry the lessons you have taught me to navigate through life. Thank you for the best and most loved years of my life. I love you Appama.
