Uthayanan was my classmate at Jaffna Hindu college from 1980-1984. He always kept us laughing and had an amazing memory to remember things about each of us. I used to see him in Colombo in the 90s now and then when he was in Wellawatte. We used to chat and he would basically recall all our classmates and ask about them. He would occasionally come to see his brother Pratheepan in Peradeniya and we would catch up on the past. Last I met him was when I went to London this summer. He was kind enough to come straight from work and sing a few songs for us. when I had a few minutes to chat with him he again recalled the 10 D days , Colombo days and Peradeniya visits. I am really sad to hear Uthayanan has left all of us in a hurry. I will always fondly remember his towering personality and that commanding voice. May his soul rest in peace.
