To the children of Sinnathamby Chinnaiya - Muralikrishnan, Meera, Umai and Ramakrishnan, On behalf of my father, Mr Sanmugaratnam and family, I would like to express my heartfelt sadness upon the death of your beloved father. I knew your Dad well as a child growing up in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and later when I was working in Singapore. I knew both him and your mother to be generous, kind and selfless. I think my father would also echo those words as a recipient of your Dad’s care and guardianship when he was settling down in Colombo in the 60s and 70’s as a young man. We are all grateful to have known him and to call him Chinnaiya. Death is never a pleasant outcome to accept, but you Dad had a bright and eventful life that should be celebrated. And it will come to us all eventually. I think Mark Twain said it best: “I do not fear death.
