It is heartbreaking to hear that my very dear childhood friend Suseelar had passed away in Urumpirai . May his beautiful sole Rest in Peace . Suseelar and Self were classmates, from the days of our Primary , Secondary schools in Urumpirai and later at Jaffna Hindu College . Suseelar with his nice handwriting had always been the first to to finish tutorial assignments. I was a Hosteller at Jaffna Hindu and Suseelar was a day Schooler. Sometimes after my weekends home visits , I would hitch a ride in his bicycle to get back to Hostel on Monday mornings. We worked hard to gain our University admission through the entrance Exam in December 1962 . Towards this, Suselar & I , along with another mutual friend and classmate M Shanmugaratnam ( now in Sydney, Australia ) did our weekend combined studies in one the classroom of Saiva Thamil Vidyasalai that adjoins the Urumpirai Odyampathi Katpagapillyar Temple Besides our studies , we explored various places in Jaffna on bicycle trips during our free times. Once again , I had the privilege of being his room mate for two terms at James Peries Hall at Peradeniya Campus, when the Engineering Faculty of the University , moved from Colombo to Peradeniya in 1964. After Graduation, he pursued a permanent career with the Inland Revenue Department of Sri Lanka eventually raising to the prestigious position of Commissioner General of Inland Revenue , a deserving post and a great achievement, hard to reach by a minority at that time . Meanwhile I had embarked on a career with the Port of Singapore Authority in Singapore . Despite our different career paths , our friendship remained strong. Suseelar had always been very simple , unassuming , down to earth and very easy to get along personality . Fond memories of our sincere friendship and association as The Sons of Our Golden Village, Urumpirai flood my mind . Suseelar , your absence will be deeply felt , my dear friend.
I have known him from his young days. Very calm and humble person with a constant smile as reflected in the photo. May his soul attain eternal harmony.
