To my beautiful Ammama. Being your grandson has been, and still is, one of the greatest honors of my life. I will always remember the love you gave me through your hugs and ‘sniffs’ and I already miss them so much. Visits to Ammama at her flat were filled with so much excitement and laughter, and I will also miss arguing over random words that we found existed in the scrabble dictionary. This was always followed by disappointment of having to leave on the way home. Your love and fondness for Swami was ever-present, demonstrated through the countless pictures you proudly displayed in the living room. I am so thankful that you passed this on to both your children and grandchildren, constantly checking whether I had recited my Bhajans or how Balvikas was going. It is this love for Swami that I am most grateful to you for, and I truly hope you are able to be at peace with him. I always enjoyed hearing about your adventures from your daily calls with my mother. It was a real treat when she’d hand me the phone and I got to hear “God bless you”. Through childhood stories that my mother frequently accounts, I will remember your character as strong, always using her intelligence to make the best out of every situation. It is through this intelligence and passion for education that you were able to navigate financial difficulties and give me the opportunities that I have today. I am so grateful Ammama, and I will aim to replicate your strength and intelligence in my own life. On one of our childhood visits, you gave my sister and I each a wooly hat and scarf that you had got specially handmade for us. This brought me so much joy and comfort. Years later, upon moving far away from home for university, it is this same scarf that I carry with me to help manage harsh winters. Even if the weather is too good to proudly wear it, knowing that it is in my bag is enough to provide me with comfort. Just like the scarf, I will always carry you with me Ammama.
