My earliest memory of Dhaya, Tamilized as Thaya Annai, was at the makeshift tutorial center next to our home in Thunnalai before it moved to a permanent place. We children would play the marbles game and, being 4-5 years senior to us, he would join our game on occasion to observe and/or advise. His kind face and unflappable personality were evident even then. I also knew that Thilagam teacher, who taught me English in my middle school years, was very fond of her youngest son. 20--30 years later, I saw him on occasion at some wedding, funeral, or memorial services of relatives in Canada. I could see that his appearance and personality hadn't changed from his teenage years in Thunnalai. The Covid pandemic has now cruelly taken him away from his loving family and friends at a relatively young age. I extend my family's heartfelt condolences to Thaya Annai's wife, his two children, Thilagam teacher, Ravi Annai and Vasanthan Annai. Our thoughts are with you all.
