A quietly spoken, welcoming, wise, diplomatic, methodical, thrift and above all orthodox these were some of the qualities of my Periamma. A great admirer of Karnatic music. Thamil and music were the fragrance of Vaitiyalingam household as they’re in Periappa’s blood. She indeed nurtured a fine family., Yamuna and Indu Acca are talented singers; Yamuna Acca is a well respected Thamil scholar. During my visit in 2018, Tharmu Annai kind enough to drove me to their home where we reminisced a lot including the Cricket. Periamma was an avid follower and also knew everything there's to know about the game of Cricket. We’re all very proud of Shankar Annai who became a great cricketer for the Royal College and coach left his mark wherever he went. No doubt Peraimma surely inspired him. I went to Brampton twice in the last two years where Periamma pointed the floor next to her bedroom where Pakiyanathan Annai slept daily just to be acute attentive for her. Indu Acca and family cared Periamma enormously under demanding times. Periamma had been blessed with in-laws, Tharmu Annai, Pakiyanathan Annai, Parasakthi Acca and all the grand and great-grandchildren. Periamma had magnificent handwriting, in 1974 she wrote the lyrics of 'Amba nee irangayenil' Atana Raha kirithi, which I kept it with me for a very long time. Last time in Brampton Peraiamma asked me to recite ‘Vallararin’ ‘Orumyudan’’ arutpa, when I stumbled during recital she corrected me, amazing lucidity!! A fine dignified lady of the Thamil classic generation completed her alapanai in style and declared her final innings. Love my Periamma always.
